Hi Alex,

It depends on what you want to do with the files. To play them remotely via the server, the server would have to connect to your remote player. Then it could access your local files and stream them to the player. I guess you would need a direct VPN tunnel between the two devices for this. To control the server you would need of course a remote connection to the NAS too. Where you store your files is relatively unimportant, as long as the server can access them. However, it probably makes the most sense to store them on the NAS so that you can always access them.

Das Image habe ich gerade runtergeladen. Dann mit Win32Diskmanager auf eine vorher mit Minipartition Wizard „gereinigte 16GB Karte gespielt.
In den Raspi3B+ gesteckt und das Raspberry original Netzteil rangesteckt.
Die Lanbuchse blinkt ständig. Im Fritz 7490 erscheint „Lan3“ in der Übersicht.
Unter Netzwerk erschien kurz Max2Play mit IP. Die IP habe ich in den Browser kopiert.
Die Antwort: Server nicht gefunden.
Dann war Max2play auch nie mehr unter Netzwerk zu finden. Nur „Lan 3 “ wurde weiter als belegt angezeigt.
Insgesamt habe ich 3 SD Karten versucht. Ein neues Lankabel an den anderen Lananschlüssen.
Einen Raspi 3B damit versucht.
Ein Laptop ohne VPN und Virenscanner versucht.

Am Router war mal eine ältere Fritzbox als Repeater. Aber das ist lange her.
Sonst aktuell 2 Desktops per Lan. 1 Switch. Da dran 1Devolo zum Yamaha, Ein Wechselrichter von Kostal. Der Rest ist im W-Lan.

Was mache ich falsch?

Okay, so there are different kinds of ports. For the Pi in the local network, the LMS usually uses port 9000.

However, open ports, for example for VPNs and the like, are a danger for the LMS. If you have not worked with anything to route a connection outside your local network, you do not need to concern yourself with this.

It might be, your installation was just somehow faulty. You can try installing anew and keeping the installation running uninterrupted for at least 15 minutes. Try selecting the version 7.9.1.

I’ve talked some with our experts on the subjects and it’s not feasible on a security level to open your home network to the Pi’s port for VPN usage. It is much safer and preferred to have the VPN on your whole home network and make sure the security of your private connections is ensured. The VPN would open up your home to exploits.

Ideally, I’d like an ExpressVPN plugin (as thats the vpn I use!), but an OpenVPN client wold probably be the best bet.
I’m trying to circumvent geoblocking to access BBC iPlayer radio UK quality streams and also Qobuz (which I pay for) from outside Europe. I can do it by adding a VPN to my router, but I also want to access local traffic so need 2 routers – local and VPN. A much tidier option would be to have the VPN client within max2play.

What do you mean by Max2Play Server? The Max2Play solution is completely built for use in a local home network. Everything is run through your local router. Connecting from the outside can be a big security risk. However, there are possibilities and options for advanced users with VPN tunnel software on the router. We do not recommend trying this unless you are aware of the risks and ramifications when opening your local network to an outside connection.

I’ve just found this thread after checking out where Max2Play is at these days (I’ve not used it for a few months). I would very much like to see a VPN implementation. One of the reasons I’ve switched away from Max2Play is the lack of VPN support. OpenVPN support would seem a good first step. I have a subscription with PureVPN and their Kodi addon works flawlessly on the same Raspberry Pi B+ (using LibrELEC OS)on which I also ran M2P. Interestingly though, I’ve not had much success with PureVPN on my QNAP HS-251+ NAS. There, OpenVPN works better than other protocols (PureVPN can use several different protocols) but I haven’t been successful yet! Thought I’d share this, as implementation clearly needs careful research.
Come to think of it – isn’t there a Kodi implementation for Max2Play? So presumably any VPN addons for Kodi would work with Kodi on M2P, so there is already a partial implementation on M2P and that should be a help in creating a native M2P VPN addon, shouldn’t it?

You can use our API examples plugin to copy the HTTP command for Max2Play reboot. You can use this command through any device in your network or an existing home automation setup or even in your own VPN solution to access it from anywhere.

Raymond Day – please read my original post to understand why the ability of Max2Play to use a VPN is desired – Pandora is one, BBC iPlayer is another. There are many geo-locked services that a VPN allows access to.

I think this would not be to hard. I guess would have to put a light sensor on the GPIO pins so could dim the display when it get dark in the room. The Squeezebox radio all ready does this.

Don’t get why need VPN. What you want to log in to it from out side your LAN? But it just play at your home. Or just want to get on it only get on Max2play with a password?

I am quite a noob with mediacenters and so on. Apologize if some questions may be very simple ones…

I’ve just installed a new Raspberry Pi 3B+ with a JustBoom Amp Hat.
I have speakers and a LED Screen. Everything works well, but there are some things I can not achieve till now (Raspbian / Kodi).
It appears that M2P could be a very good product for me, but some points are not clear while reading all docs…

What I would like to be able to do :
– to control music or videos from my smartphone (android) or Raspberry Pi (to date, I have Raspbian but I can format SD and install other OS if needed)
– to listen to music without lighting on my LED Screen, from my Android device
– to use my Spotify and Netflix premium accounts
– to use my VPN service (I need to access some media contents from both North America and Europe…)
– I would prefer not using Kodi, which is a mess on my devices and material (cannot fit a correct screen configuration, cannot install a proper Netflix plugin, etc.)

My devices and materials :
– Raspberry Pi 3B+
– Justboom AMP Hat
– LED Screen
– Speakers
– smartphone : Android 8.0.0
– WIFI / Ethernet

My questions :
– would M2P provide features I want ? with or without Kodi plugin ?
– there is a M2P Spotify plugin. Is there a Netflix one ?
– do I need to install / purchase different versions of M2P (one for Raspeberry Pi, the other for my Android device) ?

I found out how to setup the address for my remote LMS.

The programmer of jivelite, ralph_irving, has written an Windows version of jivelite.

In the „README.txt“ file it is written :

If you’re computer has multiple active network interfaces, for example wireless and vpn connections,
and after you’ve completed the initial setup, jivelite returns from Scanning for Players without finding one, try this.

After Scanning for Players fails, click and hold the left arrow button to the left of Choose Player, near the top.
Click Settings->Advanced->Networking->Remote Libraries->Add New Library.
Enter the IP address of your LMS server and click Done->Connect to this library.
At this point if you can’t connect to the library Quit jivelite and restart it.
Jivelite should connect to your library right away.

ich bin gerade dabei den 2. PI einzurichten. Der erste läuft mittlerweile wie ich es mir wünsche und auch stabil.
PI3B, 2.45
Den 2. PI erreiche ich nur über das LAN. I
n der FB 7390 ist der PI jeweils als LAN Gerät und als WLAN Gerät zu sehen mit jeweil unterschiedlichen IP Adressen.
Erreichen kann ich den PI nur wenn er über LAN verbunden ist. Wnn ich LAN ziehe
Ich habe schon den Accespoint Mode deaktiviert

Infos der FB für WLAN:
Das Netzwerkgerät nutzt gerade die Internetverbindung. Das Netzwerkgerät sendet und empfängt Daten.

Für Netzwerkgeräte: Das Netzwerkgerät ist mit der FRITZ!Box verbunden, nutzt aber aktuell nicht die Internetverbindung.
Für VPN-Verbindungen: Die VPN-Verbindung ins Heimnetz der FRITZ!Box ist aktiv.

Ich habe den PI schon einmal mit einem neuen Image und ohne Audiokarte frisch aufgesetzt.

Was kann ich noch ausprobieren?

Den 1. PI kann ich sowohl über die WLAN als auch über die LAN IP erreichen.

Um das ganze jetzt doch mal zum Abschluss zu bringen:
Das Problem ist seit der Umstellung der Startverzögerung des Squeezebox-Servers auf 30s nicht mehr aufgetreten.

Ich bin mir zwar sicher, dass das (wie oben beschrieben) einmal anders war, aber in den ganzen letzten Tagen war das Problem nicht mehr aufgetreten. Ich würde also sagen, dass das doch irgendwie daran gelegen hat.

Mögliche Erklärung:
Ich habe parallel dazu festgestellt, dass ich über den VPN auf dem Handy NICHT auf das Max2Play zugreifen kann.
Ich habe den zu Hause zwar in der Regel nicht eingeschaltet, aber wer weiß schon…
Eventuell haben sich die beiden Probleme einfach gegenseitig beeinflusst/gestützt und mich deswegen auf der falschen Fährte gehalten.

Ich habe eine Benachrichtigung von Michael Herger bekommen, die in meinem Fall (da die beschriebenen Effekte genau passen) wahrscheinlich die richtige Lösung beinhaltet. Ich poste das mal hier:

Hi there,

my name is Michael Herger. I’m the maintainer of Logitech Media Server and author of several plugins for the Squeezebox ecosystem. I recently became aware of a scheme where one of my plugins is being abused to „spy“ on open LMS installations.

I’m writing to you because your LMS seems to be open to the public: your router is forwarding port 9000 (or whatever LMS is using) to the internet. Many of you might have done this to be able to access their music from the office or the road. others might have done it trying to work around some issue. But overall it’s a bad idea. We’ve observed several abuses in the past weeks and months. Unknown visitors:

– set a password on LMS, locking its owner out of his/her own music collection
– changed the web skin
– blasted music at full volume in the middle of the night. And then again five minutes after the owner turned it off. Repeat.
– installed the Gallery plugin and had it scan all folders of all the system’s disks, causing a crash sooner or later, or spying on its content(!)
– could even install their very own plugin to do _anything_ they wanted on your system

Ok, all this just to say: please don’t open your LMS to the internet. Edit the router configuration to stop forwarding port 900x (and 9090, 3483 if they’re open). Uninstall LMS if you no longer use it (it comes pre-installed with some NAS devices).

If you still want to be able to access your music collection from the road, use a VPN connection. See eg. the following how-to, by user pippin (of iPeng fame):

Hallo zusammen,

ich hoffe deutsch ist auch ok, ansonsten formuliere ich es zur Not neu…

Ich habe mir eine Lizenz für 5 Jahre gekauft und bin super zufrieden bis auf Bluetoothproblem hat bisher echt alles geklappt. Habe jetzt schon mein Wohnzimmer mit Squeezelite und Kodi ausgestattet inkl. FHEM, OpenVPN etc.

Esszimmer läuft auch schon sowie im Bad ein umgebautes NostalgieRadio mit 16×2 Zeichen Display sowie funktionierende Drehknöpfe 😀 als nächstes folgt ein Radio für mein Bastelkeller mit Touchscreen (vorkonfiguriert ist alles und funktioniert! Sogar mit einem ELO 15″ Touchscreen für die Hausautomation alles super…

Abgesehen von meinem Bluetoothproblem (was aber keine absolut Prio hat) und dass ich auf einer Hifiberry DAC Nachbaukarte absolut kein Ton bekomme bin ich somit absolut top zufrieden und damit das ganze perfekt wird, hoffe ich hier Hilfe zu bekommen.

Ich fange mit dem mir am wichtigsten Thema an und zwar die Soundkarte und zwar ist es diese hier:

Laut mehreren Seiten bin ich auf diese Karte gestoßen, weil sie den gleichen Chip hat wie die HifiBerry DAC Karte. Ich habe schon x verschiedene Einstellungen auf der Max2Play Seite vorgenommen jedoch leider ohne Erfolg 🙁 auf diversen Seite stößt man immer wieder darauf, dass man Einstellungen per Hand machen soll, wäre ja kein Problem… z.B. laut dieser Seite:

Aber wie ich festgestellt habe, schreiben sich eh die Einstellungen der Webseite in diese Configs… Um hier sicher zu sein, dass von dem vorkonfigurierten Image kein Problem besteht, da eben in diese Configs geschrieben wird, so habe ich ein frisches Rasbian Jessy installiert und mich genau an die Anleitung gehalten vom letzten Link… klappt aber leider auch nicht.

Ich weiß irgendwie nicht weiter. Volumio war ebenfalls beschrieben, dass es damit definitiv gehen soll… dort kann man auch auf der Webseite Hifi DAC auswählen… auch kein Erfolg. Ich verzweifel noch, kann doch nicht sein, dass man das Ding nicht zum Laufen bekommt. Wenn ich danach google finde ich nur Infos zur Version V2.0 welche alle GPIOs verwenden. Bei dieser hier sind noch welche frei. (ist die Version 1.0).

Hat jemand diese Karte schon zum Laufen gebracht oder kann mir hier jemand unterstützen? Habe mit Soundkarten am Raspberry nur mit USB-Karten Berührungspunkte gehabt welche auch funktioniert haben… übrigens bekomme ich die Karte in der Tat auch angezeigt mit aplay -l Sprich die Einstellung (oder ein Teil davon) von /boot/config.txt scheint wohl gegriffen zu haben, aber kein Ton.

Falls wichtig… ich teste die Karte gerade auf einem RPi3

Bisher nur auf einem RPi B+ getestet und zwar alle updates bis zum heuten Stand. Habe auch von Max2Play die neueste VErsion installiert. BluetoothAddon installiert. Geräte gesucht und auch gefunden (mit mehreren Bluetoothsticks getestet!!! bei allen das gleiche Problem). Direktes Paaren funktioniert leider nicht. Bekomme immer ein Authentifizieurngsproblem… somit habe ich die Geräte auf Konsolenebene gepaart. Hat im ersten Step auch nicht funktioniert… ich musste „Agent“ auf ON stellen, dann konnte ich Paaren und habe auch sofort Sound gehabt… alles gut soweit… es würde auch funktionieren aber irgendwann ist das RPi so übelst ausgelastet, dass es schon ein Kompliment wäre, wenn ich sagen würde, dass der Ton abgehakt wäre. Also Performance ist was anderes, obwohl die Sachen sogar auf einem RPi A laufen sollten? Oder habe ich hier was falsch gemacht?

Über Webseite konnte ich definitiv nicht Paaren… und es funktioniert immer erst kurz und dann schießt PulseAudio in die Höhe…

Hat jetzt keine Prio aber vllt. könnt Ihr mir hier helfen?

Ich verstehe nicht, warum das dann bei mir nicht funktioniert. Beide Fritzboxen sind 7490 mit aktueller Software. Wie gesagt, ich kann den Pi nicht mal anpingen. Hast Du den VPN direkt am Pi eingerichtet? Ich habe die beiden Fritzboxen per VPN verbunden. Habe ich da etwas übersehen? Aber die anderen Geräte (NAS, Receiver, …) lassen sich erreichen (anpingen) und auch verwalten.
