    Hallo Peti,

    Hi Nojelc,
Unfortunately, Kodi is not intended for use with VPN and thus can cause problems during playback. We recommend using files that are mounted via USB, saved on the SD or mounted as a network share.

Yes, I know this will sound very silly, but this is what is happening.

I have Kodi 15.2, max2play 2.29, running on my U3. I have an ASUS DSL-AC68U, a VPN enabled router. I have a paid for VPN service. I have a TV connected via HDMI to my U3. I also take analogue audio output from my U3 direct to my amp.

In all respects apart from what follows my max2play/U3 setup, router, audio and VPN service all work fine.So for instance without a VPN connection I can play video content from my U3 USB attached hard drive, from another network drive, via BBC iPlayer, via other internet streaming services etc. without a problem. I can play the audio on my TV or via my amp and speakers. Everything works fine.

However when I turn on a VPN connection on my router and I stream video content from the internet, the audio falters. After a Kodi restart the audio normally starts OK, it may last a second or two, sometimes longer, but after a while the audio stops, while the video keeps going.

The same internet stream played on a Windows PC over the same VPN link works fine, so this must be a Kodi/max2play issue.

One of the reasons for getting this router and VPN server was to play geoblocked content via Kodi/U3, but this is not working for me. The router has loads of settings I can twiddle with, but I have no idea what they do or what, if anything, will make a difference.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Hi schumpe,
If you are using a VPN, you can access the web interface via port 80 with its IP address or under „http://max2play/“. If you are not, we do not recommend accessing it this way due to safety dangers.

Thanks mkkyah. I have not tried the above yet because after I tried again after a few hours, and before I read your posting, I found that it was working OK, and as far as I can remember I had not changed anything (well apart from closing the vpn connection on my router, but I cannot see that that will impact audio output from my U3! – but who knows?). So a bit of a mystery. Next time it fails, and I suspect it will, I will follow your instructions and see what happens. I will post any findings back here.

Yes, VPN would be very useful.
    Both server and client please.

    Hi Roman,
Unfortunately, the mysqueezebox.com remote control only works with official Logitech products. However, you can use a VPN to your local network, which you can set up in your router, to easily access your home network from anywhere and thus your SB-Server’s interface as well. You can find a lot guides to this on the web if you are interested in such a solution.

    Hi Jürgen,

Thank you for your suggestion. I added you to our list of other interested VPN users. I cannot promise anything for the next weeks and month, however.

Just got my first PI today – loving M2P!

There are a couple of things I would like so definitely +1 to VPN and/or maybe FTP?

I have fudged a DDNS by using Chron, but maybe a more elegant way would be beneficial or is that just me? I couldn’t use apt-get, but am guessing that’s intentional and my knowledge of linux is severely limited anyway, so really grateful that this was OS was put together

    Hi ad6922,

thank you for your kind feedback.

We have had VPN on our list for ideas, because another user requested VPN as well, but I cannot promise anythink for the next month, sorry.

    Hi,

max2play works great. Only a little IT-knowledge needed. No need to ssh in to your RPI.

One thing that I miss and where I need to use ssh for is the option to add VPN to your rpi.

Any plans to deliver this via m2p?

    Hallo,

vielen Dank, das ging ja sehr schnell!!! 🙂
