    Hello Heiner:
Thank you for the reply. The emails I get are from topics that I subscribe to but also topics that I have not (nowingly) subscribed to.
For the topics I subscribe to and get email notifications, when I visit the topic thread, there is indeed a ‚unsubscribe‘ button. Unsubscribing from those threads seem to work.

I get emails on topics/threads that I haven’t (knowingly) subscribed to. When I get the email there is a statement at the end of it:
„You are receiving this email because you subscribed to a forum topic.
Login and visit the topic to unsubscribe from these emails“

Yet when I go to the topic/thread, there is no link/button to unsubscribe (there is a subscribe link/button but nowhere can I see a unsubscribe)

So I figured that somewhere in my profile there is something selected that says: Subscribe to all forum threads or something similar…

Apologies, I neglected to answer your question above. I am not using an external sound card. I am using the audio subsystem on the RPi. A run an audio cable out of the speaker jack on the RPi to the input of my stereo amp.
I initially used the default settings for MPD. When I ran into the audio issue I kept audio output type as ‚alsa‘ and changed device from hw:0 to sw:0, which did not help. I’ve compiled and installed MPD on other Linux distros and have some experience dealing with the nuances of MPD. I also tried the other setting listed (I don’t recall ATM what they are). Nothing seemed to work. I restarted the system each time.
What surprised me is that this functionality is fundamental and it is being delivered to a specific target platform…everything about the environment and hardware is a known entity. For this fundamental operation not to work ‚out of the box‘ is disturbing.

Thanks for the suggestion but that approach is overkill for my application. Even now, I don’t want to invest more time into something where, for me, the basic configuration has problems. My rational is that if the ’simpler‘ config has fundamental issues, the more robust system probably would, and would be more difficult to sort out. Sorry, didn’t want to invest the time. In addition, there doesn’t seem to be a very active community on the forums and while I am not impatient, the lag time from questions to answers was too much for me.
If I get to the situation where the multi room approach fits, I’ll consider it.
    Best regards,

I did not try the suggestion. My W10 install does not have a user login and pw. While there is a user name, there is no pw on my system. To be honest, I didn’t feel like wresting with this issue. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out network connectivity issues and have grown weary of finding the ‚corner cases‘ that should have been dealt with in the design and implementation approach. Given that my install had fundamental audio issues, I was even less inclined to beat on this issue.

    Hi:
thanks for your help. After dealing with this and issues in other areas of this program, I decided to go a different route for my audio player. FYI, Volumio and Rune have no problems connecting to any of my windows shares. I think there is something incorrect with your code.
