Tagged: ftp
Hi,
uploading media to max2play on a Raspberry PI3 can be a pain. SMB isn’t performing well and sFTP is even worse from a throughput point of view – I’d say. But how about plain ftp? (within my isolated LAN, security is no issue)
The reason I’m asking is the tremendous difference in throughput when looking at my FritzBox 7590 router. FTP provides more than 2X advantage and I’m wondering if this would be similar for max2play on a Raspberry PI3. Has anyone tested yet and can comment?
Thanks,
Toby
Well, I finally found the time to instal and configure vsftpd on my PI3. And the outcome is quite the opposite compare to FritzOS.
ftp transfer is way slower compared to SMB. Here’s the ranking.
1) SMB (3.5MB/s)
2) scp (2 … 2.5 MB/s)
3/4) ftp and sftp (1 … 1.5MB/s)
Maybe this data is of use for others.
Cheers!
