{"id":20355,"date":"2016-06-03T13:38:51","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T11:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.max2play.com\/?post_type=kbe_knowledgebase&#038;p=20355"},"modified":"2016-07-25T15:00:37","modified_gmt":"2016-07-25T13:00:37","slug":"optimizing-squeezelites-volume-control","status":"publish","type":"kbe_knowledgebase","link":"https:\/\/www.max2play.com\/en\/wiki\/optimizing-squeezelites-volume-control\/","title":{"rendered":"Optimizing Squeezelite&#8217;s Volume Control"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><strong>Please note:\u00a0<\/strong>This wiki article only concerns the natively supported I2S sound cards for Max2Play.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Step 1:<\/h3>\n<p>Activate your sound card using either the option in the Raspberry Settings menu or the HiFiBerry and IQaudIO plugins.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Important:\u00a0<\/strong>With HiFiBerry sound cards, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hifiberry.com\/guides\/mixer-settings\/\" target=\"_blank\">official recommendation from HiFiBerry<\/a> is that\u00a0you should keep the playback boost off and reduce the Digital Volume slightly to about 96%.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Step 2:<\/h3>\n<p>Generally, with dedicated sound cards, we\u00a0recommend to directly connect the Squeezelite volume control to the hardware control of your sound card.\u00a0With the standard setting you have a software volume control and a fixed hardware volume on your sound card \u2013 but this does not improve your audio quality. You can connect the volume control for Squeezelite directly to your sound card\u00a0by adding <code>-o hw:0 -V Digital<\/code> to the command line options of Squeezelite in its\u00a0Advanced Settings menu you find in the Audioplayer tab. The zero indicates the sound card&#8217;s slot and the &#8222;Digital&#8220; is the sound card&#8217;s mixer device.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important: Depending on your sound card, the two parameters for slot position (e.g. 0 or 1) and mixer (e.g. Digital or Master) may vary.
